"And then the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was greater than the risk it took to bloom." Anais Nin
After years of quiet gestation Maiden Studio is morphing. In it’s previous incarnation the studio was a bustling hub of production, the birthplace of thousands of mosaics created for a tight schedule of art shows. But mosaic art is ill-suited to production as it is time-consuming and the creative process cannot be forced. Thus the show circuit was untenable over time. Still, I loved meeting thousands of art lovers and other artists and was inspired to continue through their support.
In 2008, after completing a commission that took nine months and simultaneously creating art work for shows, I was done. I left the country to live in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, part of the year then back home where my studio sang her sirens song in my yard. I ventured out there occasionally and made a few pieces, but I was leery of her voracious appetite for production and stayed briefly lest she snare me in her lair.
While living in Tortola, I collected and sorted colorful shells into workable groups and started making mosaics from found-objects. I covered tables and made mirror frames and wall-hangings. Creativity will not be denied! It is a constant thread through my life, whether it’s sewing, making batiks, mosaics, creating total environments (another passion), or experimenting with unusual ideas and relationships. Conjuring worlds through creativity is our offering at Maiden Studio.
My sister, Brenda, and I decided to resurrect this site as a forum for creativity. We share a passion for art and metaphysics and have a few rants we’ll visit from time-to-time. I will attempt to answer the most FAQ’s about mosaics and the creative process asked at the art shows, and I will continue to make mosaics on-site (see “Out Of The Crucible” ).
Please bear with us as we navigate the esoteric world of web-creation. Fortunately, my nephew is a cyber-magician or we would be lost before we started. Please check back often, ask questions, tell us what you would like to see from Maiden Studio and thank you so much for visiting us.
